Wolff: "If it weren't for that buoy, Lewis would have won in Abu Dhabi"

Wolff: „Keby nebolo tej bóje, Lewis by vyhral v Abu Dhabí”

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

You may all remember Lewis Hamilton's unfortunate qualifying performance on Saturday. The seven-time world champion crashed out in Q1, but managed to fight his way from last place to fourth in the race.

Although the team's preliminary simulations predicted a maximum of sixth position, Hamilton thoroughly refuted this and, according to the (former) boss, if he had not encountered such bad luck during qualifying, he could have won:

"I always try to look at events impartially, with an analytical eye, and in my opinion, if that buoy had not been in his path and qualifying had ended earlier, Lewis would have fought for victory. However, this does not leave any impression on me, because we have achieved so many victories and successes together that what has happened or not happened now no longer affects our relationship in any way."

But he must be given his due: He competed as a world champion in Abu Dhabi. He started from 16th place and patiently, tactically worked his way up to fourth place and finished ahead of the Red Bulls. That is, in my opinion, the performance of a world champion, there is no doubt about it!” - Toto Wolff once again praised his racer as team boss.
