It is very rare for someone to lead the drivers' championship in F1 (more massively) who is in third place in the constructors' championship.
With McLaren's resurrection and Scuderia Ferrari's strong performance, the end of the 2024 season is becoming increasingly exciting. Max Verstappen's world title is not yet in danger, but another victory for Lando Norris and a possible zero points for Red Bull Racing would bring the sides so close that it could already be called an open competition.
Until then, however, the Dutchman is on course for another success, one that is not just exceptional in that it would be a title defense. His team is modestly in third place in the constructors' championship, and if Verstappen still wins the world championship, he could revive a 41-year-old record, namely Nelson Piquet, who became world champion in 1983 driving a car for a team that finished third in the constructors' championship. After the dominance of recent seasons, it is very interesting to write about it, but that is exactly the situation now.
