South Africa is leading a very strong campaign to get the country back into the Formula 1 circuit, and not just in the media. That's why the country's sports minister has set up a committee to select a promoter with whom the country will submit an application in the coming months.
It is said that Kyalami, a venue that is not entirely unknown to F1, could be the winner. Gayton McKenzie, the minister responsible for sport, is already planning for 2027 because he thinks that the conditions could realistically be met by then to host:
“The commission that has now been set up will determine the conditions of the application. By the end of February, they must submit to the government a proposal for a venue that will certainly not bring shame to the country and will host the best race possible. Which venue it will be, we do not know yet, but I would like to add that Kyalami has its history and it also has the infrastructure. Look at the climate, look at the roads, the possibility of hosting a city race is clearly outlined. There are investors who are willing to make sacrifices for this, so I think everything is ready…” - declared the most important participant in this matter.
