US Grand Prix: Leclerc's surprising but confident victory

USA Veľká cena: Prekvapujúce, ale sebavedomé víťazstvo Leclerca

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

Surprisingly, Scuderia Ferrari dominated the US Grand Prix, with favourites Lando Norris and Max Verstappen only able to fight for third place.

Charles Leclerc brilliantly recognized the "back door" offered to him by Lando Norris and Max Verstappen at the start, and from 4th place he immediately took the lead. His compatriot Lewis Hamilton also had a great start, from the last row he made it to 12th (!!) place in a few corners, but as quickly as he got ahead, his fate caught up with him... The Briton got into the gravel at the same place where George Russell did yesterday during qualifying, and so he said goodbye to further competitions. The safety car came, and after the safety car left, the essential picture did not change: Leclerc, Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz remained at the front. They were followed by two McLarens, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastra. Then came another turn by Guanyu Zhou and some duel at the back of the field, but it was already unfortunately clear that we would not record the 2024 US Grand Prix as the race of the decade.

After the pit stops, the order at the front changed a bit, with the two Scuderia Ferrari cars already dominating the race, with Verstappen struggling behind them on the hard compounds. We saw many different strategies and tactics, but unfortunately there were fewer moments reminiscent of car racing. We expected the fast-moving Norris to light some fire in the Austin wasteland, and also Liam Lawson, who gave a great performance in his comeback race. The intensity of the race was well demonstrated by the fact that the broadcast or ten long laps showed nothing but Norris chasing Verstappen - for the simple reason that nothing else happened.

In the end, Norris managed to gain position, but illegally, so Charles Leclerc, who won the US Grand Prix, and second Carlos Sainz, eventually passed Max Verstappen in third place.
