The bottom line is that if Max Verstappen wins his next race, then there is no doubt he is world champion. If he doesn't, there is still a chance he will be crowned champion in Las Vegas, or Lando Norris could avoid it...
We will show you how:
If Verstappen is second, Norris must definitely win to maintain a mathematical chance.
If Verstappen is third, Norris must finish at least second, but if the Red Bull driver were to have the fastest lap, it would still mean the championship for him.
If Verstappen is fourth, Norris needs at least third place to keep his hopes alive. If the Dutchman finishes fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth or ninth, Norris needs to overtake him by at least two positions. If Norris sets the fastest lap of the race, he only needs to finish one place ahead of him to (theoretically) stay in the game. If Verstappen is tenth, Norris needs to be in the top eight. And finally, if Verstappen doesn't score any points, Norris should finish at least ninth, with the fastest lap of course.
Have we already said that we hate math?
