Sainz: "My father wanted me to choose Audi"

Sainz: "Môj otec chcel, aby som si vybral Audi"

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

There was some debate between the older and younger Carlos Sainz about which option would be best for Carlos Sainz JR. In the end, the younger Sainz gave in to his feelings and, according to his own words, he has no regrets.

On the contrary, even Alpine offered him the opportunity, but he clearly chose the weakest option:

"My dream was to sign a contract with Red Bull or possibly Mercedes, but that didn't happen. Then I had to choose between Audi, Alpine and Williams. After visiting the teams and factories, and after talking to everyone, one feeling immediately whispered to me: go to Williams, they want to achieve a better future. When not only my mind but also my heart told me the same thing, I knew that they would be my path. I know that my father felt very good with Audi at the Dakar Rally, he has a very good relationship with them, he wanted me to join them, but I hope he will forgive me for not choosing them. I want to prove to him that I made the right decision! When I first sat in their car last year, I immediately felt that they were full of enthusiasm, motivation and wanted to return to the front of the peloton. The car also behaved well, our test this year was great, the improvements are working. I don't know what all this will be enough for, how far we will be from the leading group, but "I believe that as a team we will continue to improve and eventually the time will come when we will become competitive," said Carlos Sainz optimistically.
