But one bad race or an unexpected technical error can easily change the situation, in McLaren's favor. Max Verstappen is well aware of this and, in addition to traditional means, is trying to find psychological pressure on his opponent:
"I think Oscar is a much better driver than playing the role of a supporting character. He shouldn't have accepted it, although it's true that I've never been in that situation. But for me he's not second on any level, and if I were him I would never go through with it. Of course, I know it's easy to say. I've been here for ten years, Oscar Piasti is only in his second season in F1. But he's simply too good to give up wins and positions for his teammate and the team, just because they ask him to. That's not fair to him!" - Verstappen skillfully indicated emotional tones.
