An 11th team is coming, but won't it be Andretti?

Prichádza 11. tím, ale nebude to Andretti?

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

It very much looks like it was not a project, but a certain person that caused the Andretti F1 Team to not join the racing circus.

During the Las Vegas Grand Prix, several leading international professional magazines wrote that an agreement on the announcement of a new team was close. However, not in the form that we had expected so far. It seems that the strong push of Michael Andretti was not liked by many, but his withdrawal may open the way for another American team. The fact that one of Andretti's main supporters was Mohammed bin Sulayem, who is known for his bad relations with... everyone, could also have affected the formula.

But now it looks like General Motors has taken control, and they would be relying on Andretti's existing infrastructure. More importantly, they have accepted status with the other Formula 1 entrants. Their European hub at Silverstone is already up and running, a professional team is taking shape nicely, and plans are for Cadillac and Andretti to appear, albeit with a reduced emphasis.

Meanwhile, GM has already begun work on its own F1 engine program, with reports suggesting the first working in-house powertrain could arrive in 2028. So they could be a partner team when they debut in 2026, with Ferrari or Honda likely to be a possibility. It all sounds very exciting, and given recent developments, we are now the closest we can get to seeing the dream become a reality in the form of another Formula 1 team.
