Many people wave their hands when Fernando Alonso's name is mentioned. Not one of them is Karun Chandhok, the former F1 driver who claims that with the arrival of Adrian Newey, Alonso can easily be world champion at the age of 45.
Chandhok says the situation is very similar to when Newey joined Red Bull Racing's midfield. At that time, serious rule changes were also coming to Formula 1, and now it's exactly the same situation, from which Chandhok deduces that, like RB, Aston Martin can be incredibly strong:
"In 2007 and 2008 they were mostly focused on building their structure and making big changes in 2009, and although Brawn surprised them with the double diffuser, in the second half of that season they were the best. We all know the rest: they won every world title from 2010 to 2013, they dominated the racing circus for four years. I think something similar is happening at Aston Martin now, and if they can do a good enough job in 2025, they could see explosive growth in 2026 under the new rules system."
"It would be incredible history if Fernando, at the age of 44-45, won his third world title with a car designed by Adrian Newey. He certainly believes in it too, which is why he is still in the game!" - mused the Indian expert.
