After Saturday's unacceptable comedy, they caught up with qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix today, where Lando Norris took pole position.
In Q1, which was moved to the following day, the field faced almost the same conditions as before. Accordingly, the first stage showed a picture of cautious exploration, with a number of skids and accidents. Franco Collapinto became the first victim and hit the wall, triggering a short red flag phase. These conditions were best read by Max Verstappen, Alexander Albon and George Russell, while the final outfalls included Lewis Hamilton, Oliver Bearman, Nico Hülkenberg and Zhou Guanyu, in addition to the aforementioned Collapinto.
We hadn't even reached the middle of Q2 when Carlos Sainz imitated Franco Colapinto and crashed his Ferrari into the wall almost at the same spot where his Argentine colleague had crashed earlier. Another red flag followed... At that time, Oscar Piastre, George Russell and Lance Stroll were in the lead, but it was clear that with the intermediate tyres on, this would not be the final order. Soon after Stroll's crash, an avalanche began, followed by red flags one after the other. Valtteri Bottas, the two Red Bulls, Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly also had to say goodbye alongside him, because despite the time remaining, this stage had not started. All of this came in handy for McLaren, especially Norris...
Q3 turned into total chaos, first Alonso crashed, then Albon smashed the Williams, eventually only seven drivers remained in the top 10. In the last few clean minutes of qualifying we could see constant improvements, where the trio of Lando Norris, George Russell and Yuki Tsunoda proved to be the fastest.
